Frequently asked questions
What is a population pyramid?
It's a chart that splits a country's population into age bands, with males on one side and females on the other. The overall shape tells you whether a country is young and growing, mature, or ageing and shrinking. There's a full beginner's guide here: How to read a population pyramid.
Where does the data come from?
Every pyramid is built from the UN's World Population Prospects 2024 (2023 estimates), licensed under CC BY 3.0 IGO. See the Data & methodology page for exactly how each chart and bonus fact is derived.
When does the new puzzle come out?
Every day at midnight UTC — and it's the same country for everyone, so you can compare with friends.
Is it free?
Yes, completely free, with no ads in the game.
How are streaks counted?
Solve the daily puzzle and your streak goes up by one. Miss a day, or use all six guesses without solving, and it resets. Practice rounds and the bonus quiz don't affect it.
How many countries are there?
196 — the 193 UN member states plus Taiwan, Palestine and Kosovo.
Does the bonus round affect my score?
No — it's scored separately and never touches your country streak.
Do my stats sync across devices?
Not yet. Your streak and stats live in your browser's local storage, so they stay on the device you play on.
